Affordable living in connectedness with the neighbourhood.

Being part of a neighborhood, building ties with other community members, seeing your hood thrive with sufficient space for community activities, housing and local businesses. This is not naturally the case for large groups of residents in Amsterdam. Where people often lack the capacity to organise effectively and create harmonized action now and for future generations to come. The liveability of the Bijlmer remains behind as well as that its resident often struggle to fully prosper socially and economically. We are the first Community Land Trust (CLT) of the Netherlands; The CLT H-Buurt association which is situated in the heart of the H- buurt and we believe we can create change together.

Our approach

The Community Land trust (CLT) model has been widely used in different countries to create permanent access to affordable housing and community infrastructure, to counter speculation and to realize rooted inclusive communities. CLTs are non-profit, democratic, community-led organisations.

We are more than a trendy initiative that acts as an island in the neighbourhood. By avoiding market speculation, we develop and manage homes which are affordable for perpetuity, as well as other community assets which contributes to thriving neighbourhoods. And most important of all, we act as long-term stewards of these assets, ensuring they remain permanently accessible for generations to come.

The past years we have organised events en meet-ups to involve and inform interested actors in and around the neighbourhood. This led to the set-up of the open members association CLT H-Buurt. We are dedicated to make the Community Land Trust building reality and increase the active participation from the H-neighbourhood. Who are we?

We (like minded community members) took the initiative to find out how a CLT would look like in the Netherlands. Òur vision is to create a flourishing community where residents are socially and economically emancipated. And were people have the capacity, skills and ownership to steer neighbourhood development now and for future generations.

The CLT H-Buurt association consists of a diverse community with over 140 members. We originated from a grassroots organization that has been active in the H-Buurt for more than fifteen years and is supported by different expert organisations and the municipality of Amsterdam.

From 2018 (And The People) and now also with a European CLT network bundled at the platform www.cltbijlmer.nl
